Some allotments are more dangerous than others. Some allotments are exciting. Be careful though, you never know what might happen to youâ€Â¦ On some apparently squalid urban sites, amongst the rats and other predators, old scores are settled – friendships forged and, now and again, even tender romance can blossom.
The strangest alliances are formed. On this allotment there are opportunities to meet people you̢۪d never normally come in contact with. Have you ever wondered about the strange appeal of the urban vegetable garden? A place of escape from work and home? When you happen to walk or drive by an allotment garden, have you ever wished you could go in, or does that thought disturb you? Is there something sinister about those broken down sheds and newly turned earth, almost like graves?
A lone fox screams and discovers something terrible as it hunts in the deep of night. Here a group of disparate individuals come onto the allotment hoping for comfort, escape or even, just possibly, adventure.
Nature 'red in tooth and claw', the Goddess Hera is not in the habit of troubling herself with human concerns. One night she happens to notice what the fox digs up. She notices lonely Lily scattering seeds by moonlight. Perhaps Gaia is only Lily̢۪s imagining, but something about the lonely place, and the sense of a world indifferent to human concerns all about her, gives her courage in her own life. Her marriage has become a series of petty disappointments.
Her husband has his own concerns. How he too longs for change! Can animal activism bring about hope in his life as well?
Charles, a shy and socially inept businessman is planting vegetables, in retreat from his controlling, flirty mother. He notices Lily – and sometimes that’s all that it takes.
Two shy Polish sisters nurse an old despair and Rufus, down-and-out, and possibly beyond repair, needs something to drag him free from his obsession with a long lost family.
Hidden secrets, lost treasure and the bully tactics of the Chairman of the Allotment Association, force them up against each other - with one gentle old gardener introducing them all to friendship Egyptian-style, and just possibly true love. Into this odd assortment of characters comes Destry, a leather-clad gothic messenger, though no one is sure quite who he is and why he's there... Is he a harbinger of good or evil?
